It was on this day in 1991 that Steve Peters defeated Janet Golding and Cliff Barwick to become mayor of St. Thomas. At the time he was the youngest mayor in the country. He was re-elected in 1994 and 1997. In 1999, he defeated PC MPP Bruce Smith to become Liberal MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London.
